I love table-top Gaming. There is no graphics engine yet that can come close to comparing with the human brain's ability. I do, however, find a lot of table-top gaming frustrating, in that there is very little room for improvisation without forcing the game moderator to suddenly begin scrambling about like a madman for about half an hour. A lot of this can simply be overcome with the use of extra preparation, but it would be preferable to design a system for generating new regions on the fly that is both fast and intuitive, and also build a series of systems that, at the moderator's option, allow for him to generate sweeping worldwide changes based on player's actions, without weeks worth of between game work. I believe that combining the computational capabilities of the copmputer to the usually predominantly analog world of tabletop gaming is the solution, allowing it to do the heavy lifting, and giving the moderator of the game the tools he or she needs to produce a fun, immersive gaming experience, with potential for sandbox-style gameplay that has proven very successful in the video game world, but has generally proven complicated to carry over to the table.
