The TENDS Server has been designed so that it can carter to the needs of as many people as the network can support. ie. it is Multi-Threaded.
1) First go to the machine on which the file is located. (It may be LINUX machine also).
This machine will act as the Server and all the clients will connect to this machine to fetch the required file which is present on this machine.
Any Computer that has the file which is to be transferred has to act as the Server.
On that machine , move to the Server directory by typing...
cd TENDS\server2)Now execute the server by giving the command.....
java TENDSServer (Windows)
or /usr/java/bin/java TENDSServer (LINUX)
3) Now from the client machine run the TENDS Editor and go to...
Features > Import Manager > Import a File. A dialog box similar to above one will pop up. Fill in the IP Address of the Server. By default it is 127.0.0.1 NOTE: For Windows NT Networks you may use the WINS naming conventions
eg. MR1-PDC (Do not use \\MR1-PDC).4) The Server runs on the port 5998 by default so the slider provided will not work.
5) Next fill up the File name of the file you want to import. It is important to fill the FULL filename of the file you wish to import
eg. D:\My Documents\Text file.txt (Windows)
/home/anurag/documents/text.txt (LINUX)6) The TENDS Server displays all the infprmation about the Connection attempts made, files reequested , IP of client etc...
WARNING :
Generally almost all of the Linux distributions come with some form of Free Security Packages like Firewalls etc. As you know , Firewalls are supposed to Block all of the Incoming/Outgoing traffic, so any attempt to connect to a Linux Server protected by a firewall will Crash TENDS Editor.
If you want to connect to the Linux Server then first disable the firewall and make sure that the port 5998 is not blocked and then import the file using the client TENDS Editor.
CAUTION : The HTML / RTF Browser supports PURE HTML formatted files. Html files with other contents like DHTML / Scriptings / Applets may crash TENDS
- Normally HTML / RTF browser has very good support for Html and to some extent it can load standard Rich Text Format (RTF) Files with great accuracy.
- HTML Browser also supports Hyperlinks but they should not point to Internet.
- To Edit HTML Files press F4 on the keyboard. This will open the file in the Text Viewer.
- To load a new file press F3 or go to File > Open
TENDS Image viewer is a light weight image viewer which can load files of type
- GIF (Graphic Interchange Format)
- JPG / JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)
- PNG (Public Networks Graphics)
- To open an Image press F3 or go to File > Open
- To clear the Image press F5
TENDS Supports File Compression also. The files are compressed using standard ZIP format. These compressed files can then be opened using any Extraction utility eg WINZIP / WINRAR / PKZIP etc...
CAUTION : The files to be compressed MUST be in ASCII / Text format. Binary files like Program Files / Images / Media files get corrupt during the compression
